Kevin Durant Signs To Roc Nation Sports

After letting go his ownership in the Brookyln Nets to pursue his new sports agency, Jay-Z and Roc Nation Sports signed their biggest client to date Friday night in NBA superstar Kevin Durant.

Sports Business Journal first reported KD’s move and has quoted “Durant does not want a traditional agent anymore. He had a chance to work with his idol, and have Jay-Z handle his branding and could not say no.”

Durant is changing representation for the second time in two years, most recently being with Rob Pelinka of Landmark Sports, who also represents Kobe Bryant and James Harden. Pelinka helped Durant with marketing gigs such as Nike, Gatorade, Degree and Sprint. Including making him one of the top most televised athletes.

“We are honored and blessed to have worked on behalf of Kevin, for a brief period of time,” Pelinka said in a statement. “He is an amazing person and athlete, and we are proud of our work and service toward advancing his brand in a manner that reflects the mutual qualities we share with Kevin.”

As mentioned, Jay-Z is dropping his small ownership interest in the Brooklyn Nets to allow him to become an agent, but sources say that he has yet to be certified with the NBPA (National Basketball Players Association). League executives now speculate if the rapper and agency will try to lure Durant out of the small market of Oklahoma City. He is currently signed there through the 2015-2016 season.
