Rick Ross talks about how Maybach Music Group's "Self Made 3" is good for the whole label and reveals that he's been filming a documentary for over a year.
Rick Ross recently explained why Maybach Music Group has decided to release their Self Made 3 compilation album.
"It just feels good to see this come to fruition," Rick Ross said of Self Made 3 in an interview with New York radio station Power 105.1. "It was just an idea, just a couple of years ago. For all of us, it's just a little alley-oop leading into our own solo projects, our own solo albums that we want to give our people. It's just fun to get together."
Ross also said that a compilation like Self Made 3, which is set to be released September 17, also allows fans to see other musicians that are part of Maybach Music Group.
"We believe in putting out that work," Ross said. "That's what keeps us at the top of this game. Compilations, for artists like ourselves, is always a good thing. When you hear these records and you hear the new artists we bringin' to the folds, the new producers, all the different sounds, and it just give everybody a chance to shine in their own light. I love it."
Maybach Music Group's Self Made Vol. 1 was released May 2011. The compilation included contributions from Meek Mill, Wale, Pill and Rick Ross. Self Made 2: The Untouchable Empire, released June 2012, featured contributions from Gunplay, Stalley, Kendrick Lamar, Omarion and Nas.
Beyond a compilation album, MMG is also planning a documentary.
"We actually been filming it for over a year now," Rick Ross said. "But when we come with it, it's something that I want to be real dope, as well as get the approval from all the homies when it come to they particular sections. So we always just document what we doin'. It's all good."
